Blog covering the upcoming NFL CBA negotiations

About

Radovich’s Revenge is a blog about the NFL, the NFL Players Association, and the negotations for the collective bargaining agreement.

I’m Gnopple. That’s my web presence. I’ve had a few other sports blogs: some short-lived, others longer.  I’m a lawyer.   I’ve never worked for any of the relevant parties. I have been a litigation attorney in a big law firm, working on antitrust matters among many others.  Never have I worked on any sports-related cases or other labor and employment issues (besides one antitrust-related).  So, I’m not perfectly versed on collective bargaining or other labor issues.  If you want to discount me, those are perfectly good reasons for doing so.

My efforts here are the efforts of a football fan who seeks to understand the issues involved in the CBA negotiations.  As I stated in my first post, I have a general lean towards the NFL players, retired players, and those seeking to play in the NFL.  That does NOT mean that I’m a big fan of the NFLPA.  In my view, the NFLPA lags behind the other sports unions/associations in that it is a majorly weak union for the employees of a major, profitable sports league.   That said, I’m not for any agreement that screws the NFL or the owners.  I’m a fan. I want a competitive league and to a large degree, I get that the current makeup of the NFL is beneficial for fans.  But as a (somewhat) knowledgeable  fan, I understand that the players that makeup the WHOLE of the NFL have a fairly shitty chance of making a profitable living on their talents and hardwork (and their body/lives on which the NFL freely takes a major toll).

I hope you enjoy following along and I encourage anyone with an opinion or corrections or better interpretations of events unfolding to contact me and set me straight.  If you have a particularized skill or knowledge of collective bargaining, antitrust, sports law, or the actual negotiations, I’d love you to identify your background, if not your name. As a new media “journalist” (really freelance writing lawyer), I keep sources private to the same extent that Matt Cooper and Judith Miller did (they only revealed sources following their sources’ public acknowledgement that they were indeed the sources).  I have a high respect for the First Amendment and the levels to which it should protect journalists and their sources.  I also believe that any allegations or facts must come from legitimate sources.
